To the Members of the New Hanover County Board of Elections,
On behalf of the NAACP New Hanover County Branch, we respectfully urge you
to establish an additional early voting site in the central area of Wilmington. This
action is necessary to ensure equitable access to early voting for all residents,
particularly those who face transportation and mobility challenges.
While we recognize the inclusion of the Northeast Library as an early voting site,
its location is not accessible for many members of our community, especially those
living in the downtown and inner-city areas. This disparity creates a barrier to
participating in the electoral process and undermines the principles of fairness and
inclusiveness.
We understand that financial constraints may be a consideration. However, we
encourage the Board to seek additional funding or community partnerships to
support the implementation of a more centrally located site. Every effort should be
made to ensure that all taxpaying citizens of New Hanover County and the City of
Wilmington have an equal and fair opportunity to exercise their right to vote
during the early voting period.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. We look forward to your response and
to seeing action that prioritizes equity and accessibility in the upcoming election.
Sincerely,
LeRon T. Montgomery
President, NAACP New Hanover County Branch
